Frequently Asked Questions
1) I’m booked on one of your courses what do I need to bring?
Frocks that Rock
You’ll need to bring:
Fabric of your choice (or you can purchase some here from our hand curated range). To calculate the amount of fabric needed browse the paper patterns her on the website.
A basic sewing kit ie – tape measure, fabric scissors, pins, needles and thread, quick unpick
Invisible zip (or this can be purchased here).
A notebook and a pencil.
2) What type of sewing machines do you use?
We use Janome machines with speed control. We find that everyone gets on very well with them, but you are of course welcome to bring your own machine if you wish.
3) Is lunch included?
Lunch is not included in the workshops, so please bring a packed lunch, pop to one of Lyme Regis’s quirky little eateries or our local supermarkets. We don’t recommend sewing on an empty stomach
4) Do you Provide Refreshments?
We find sewing is thirsty work, so real coffee, Dorset Clipper tea and the odd sneaky biscuit are all provided throughout the day to keep you in tip top form. If you’re really lucky, you might get a slice of Dorset apple cake, too.
5) I’m not from around here, where would you recommend to stay?
Luckily Lyme Regis is full of lovely hotels, B&Bs, campsites and guesthouses, so finding a place to stay during your sewing retreat shouldn’t be too tricky. Check out booking.com, airbnb & Lyme Bay Holidays.
6) Is there parking available?
There is parking available right next to the studio, but be warned: it’s a little pricey. For a cheaper option, try the Holmbush car park at the top of town and Charmouth Road Car Park (both £2.00 /day just a small 10 minuet walk away).
7) How far ahead can I book onto a workshop?
As there are usually only 6 places available for each course, we recommend booking as far in advance as possible! If you would like to book ahead further than the dates shown on the website, contact Caroline at caroline@sewladidavintage.com or give her a call on 07707811114 to discuss dates.
8) Are patterns included in all of the workshops?
On booking Frocks that Rock you receive a free pattern of your choice. For Body Blue Print you will have the freedom to design your own pattern! For The Little Black Dress if you desire to make one of ours that is also free to use, however you are welcome to bring your own.
9) I’m a confident seamstress, but my friend is a beginner. Is there a course we can do together?
We deliberately keep our group numbers small, as we pride ourselves on nurturing and guiding all of our students of varying abilities, from fresh faced beginners to the more confident sewist. This means that your group can choose any course you fancy, safe in the knowledge that we will tailor your individual activities to a level suited to your personal level of experience.
10) I haven't received my online order… who should I contact?
We do aim to provide a seamless service when it comes to our products and postage and packing systems, but if you do experience any problems please accept our apologies and contact caroline@sewladidavintage.com with the details and we’ll do our very best to sort it out.
11) Help me, I’m stuck! What have I done wrong?
Oh dear! Don’t worry; it can happen to the best of us. We’re currently working on video tips and tutorials, but in the meantime keep calm and contact Caroline, and she’ll try and get you back on track.
12) I don’t have a PayPal account, how can I pay?
That’s okay, you don’t need your own PayPal account to pay for your order. Our system is able to process credit and debit cards through PayPal, simply click on the right link, once you are on the Paypal payment page.
